Our latest drop, a seersucker selection of high-summer staples, is the harmonious blend of two narratives: rich textile heritage, and our dedication to stylistic refinement—a journey ongoing.

Today, we share a detailed glance into the processes that brought life to this recent capsule, pay homage to its origins, and look forward to the chapter in its future that we are consciously curating.

Noun. seer·suck·er ˈsir-ˌsə-kər. : a light fabric of linen, crimped with a puckered surface

Seersucker derives from a Persian term, literally translating to “milk and sugar.” Its namesake is thought to be granted from the light tan and white stripes of the material's original motif, representing cane sugar beside streams of milk. Other interpretations suggest a title symbolic of the contrasting rough and soft textures.

The fabric's exact origins are lost to history, yet many believe it found roots on the Indian subcontinent, deriving from the artistically flourishing landscape of the Mughal Empire. Traditionally, it was crafted from alternating cotton and silk yarns, which, when washed, would shrink to the textile’s distinctive warped finish.

Seersucker was a cooling relief; comfortable and refusing to cling to the skin—a suited remedy for India’s warm climate. The material’s gentle puckering invited a refreshing breeze, earning it favour amongst its native artisans and, later, Western colonial settlers, who embraced and circulated its soothing properties throughout the scorch of summer.

Accelerating to the present, the seersucker process has evolved while remaining staunchly loyal to its foundations. Individual warp yarns are pulled at varying degrees of tightness on automated looms, known as slack-tension weaving. This interchanging tension causes the puckered surface, allowing greater accuracy and precision than historically possible.

Even when ironed, seersucker retains its distinctive crinkled appearance, maintaining ventilating properties that make it coveted amid warmer seasons. It requires minimal tending and priming, allowing garments to be effortlessly stored for summer travels.

0.01

Selecting seersucker as the focal fabric of our 0.01 collection was a choice drawn deeply from its storied heritage. We sought to transcend contemporary associations of preppy, country-club stripes and peel back to an essence of precise functionality and classic elegance.

Seersucker comprehensively reflects the Wave Texture approach to modern fashion. For a summer collection, we strived to harness the breathability of this natural material, while ensuring a cohesive blend with our distinctive minimalism. Choosing a monotonal colourway of black, green, and white ensured total versatility and wardrobe circularity.

Initiating our design process, we selected to work with a rarer form of seersucker that features slightly wider stripes than traditional patterns. We felt this offered a more serene and modern aesthetic, seamlessly coexisting with the 100% Japanese cotton composition—an intentional adaptation that distinguishes our collection from contemporary variations.

Blanc, Vert, Noir

We envisioned this collection as a trio of sets, designed to be worn with complete interchangeability. Each piece offers rotational styling with fluid mixing and matching, adaptable for whichever event greets your phone calendar.

As with all of our garments, we create each piece with its story preordained. White, we mused, would be a fine fit for summer weddings, its fresh elegance embodying the ambience called for such occasions. Green seemed ideal for relaxed events and garden gatherings, naturally acclimatising to any pastoral setting. Black would endure as a minimalist staple, effortlessly carrying you through the warmer seasons of life, for life.

Thoughtful design elements are found throughout 0.01. We regard these details as small treasures that only you, the wearer, may notice and appreciate—and that’s exactly why they are included. The addition of adjustable cords at the belt of each pair of shorts, side slits in all pieces for comforting airflow, and various other functional considerations to improve wearability.

Embellished mother-of-pearl buttons and a crisp breast pocket—each serve as refined finishing touches, ensuring every piece remains fondly memorable and rich in its unique narrative. A vintage Hawaiian shirt, reimagined and oversized. Military shorts, reworked through our classic brand lens. Suit trousers that prioritise comfort without forgetting distinguished, piping and side-slit features.

Perhaps the most significant detail is the use of our house ribbon on each shirt pocket, subtly lining the Sair pieces and intricately embroidered on the Couture—yet another nod to seersucker’s esteemed past. The product of countless hours of craft, each adorned piece has been made in collaboration with renowned atelier Lesage.

The 0.01 collection is everything you recognise, but not all that you know. These sets are your invitation to discovery. Sleek modernity proudly meets the foundational fabric of centuries-old wardrobes, with each story humbly interwoven. The seersucker capsule offers a glance at the past and an exciting stride into the future. We hope this resonates with every button you fasten.
