Honouring Legacies Within Roy - Exploring a Limited Edition Collaboration
The Roy veste laid the premier foundations of Wave Texture, an embodiment of our essence. Its limited edition counterpart now sets the standard, a reflection of our endeavours and vision for the future. The product of creative collaboration, this item is deeply personal, rich in heritage that has been interweaved in its standout motif—a story designed to be carried, and carried on, by the wearer.
Matchless in design, this exclusive run of Roy has been developed in collaboration with haute couture atelier, our brand's greatest ally in creativity. This partnership embraces their many years of experience servicing France’s most respected fashion Maisons to develop a unique embroidery that adorns the hood of this limited edition drop. Since 1924, Lesage has woven a storied legacy within haute couture, becoming a leading artisan of the finest threadwork in Paris and beyond. If anyone could guide Roy through this journey, it was them—unwavering in their vision and uniquely equipped for the task.
Sweats are the contemporary man’s jeans and t-shirt. They have become an interchangeable uniform—almost second nature when adapting to a culture that increasingly prioritises day-to-day comfort. Global fashion houses fill their inventories with them to meet demand, and, in theory, why not? The pieces are cost-efficient, quick to produce and, unlike atelier dresses, can be made in a factory. The barriers begin to rise when seeking to create sweats that pursue something deeper and are sought for a greater purpose. Our discovery while working on what would become the Roy veste was that the options available to us, candidly, lacked the craftsmanship we expected from such revered institutions.
We set out to construct a modern garment that would be cherished, rather than simply worn, by an audience who prioritised our dedication to honed craft. For those who see a piece of clothing as more than such, choosing instead to embrace a product of stories, sweat, tears, and commitment. Central to our vision was a desire to create a piece akin to what a Chanel hoodie may look like, if treated as couture. This became Roy, and was further explored through a limited edition piece. The outcome was a modern wardrobe hero, deeply etched with French heritage craftsmanship—a balance that will forever be sought, and achieved, at Wave Texture, despite the challenges.
Roy in its latest form brings every beloved feature from before — polished accents, an oversized silhouette and a commitment to conscious, premium materials. Now, it is reimagined with an embroidered hood, the result of 25 hours of personal, handcrafted artistry. Offering refined versatility, the motif can be worn up hood up as a statement piece, or allowed to rest on the shoulder for understated, casual moments. Roy’s construction elevates, casting aside any sweatshirt owned previously—a piece with finer details that offers a constant journey of discovery.
The idea of embracing hand embroidery originated from an initial vision conceived by our designer. Within it, he pictured a teenager visiting his grandmother, donning a beloved black sweatshirt. The grandmother, a keen embroidery enthusiast, would transform the basic into something uniquely special. A fusion of his edgy, youthful aesthetic with her botanical inspirations—a distinct weaving of thorns and flowers. It would be a task rooted in love, and a concept we purposefully brought to life.
Embroidery that snakes across the hood in this rare release has been something made entirely unique. We chose to play on Lesage’s exceptional strength with this design—their ability to translate creative briefs technically, crafting a wearable product that retained beauty. We never doubted their ability to create something aesthetically stunning, it’s their bread and butter. When we introduced a sweatshirt, well outside Lesage’s traditional remit, we couldn't have hoped for a better demonstration of their ability to adapt creatively. Every minute spent curating, editing and reworking can be felt in the end result, a collaboration of international sensibilities and techniques, with the task of final production entrusted to Max Modesti and the team at Atelier 2M.
This highly personal collaboration purposefully carries to the wearer. In a world where sweats are ubiquitous, Roy offers a tie to the past. Before the wheel gave us movement to tell our stories, a needle and thread were the vessels for that voice and identity. The human need for a small stitch of initials or personal print on our clothing, still felt today, is recognised and honoured through a garment that is proudly the product of that history.
Thoughtfully, it reminds us of the humanity behind fashion, prioritising connection. A story begins, imprints and continues— it can be felt both physically and emotionally within Roy's embroidered, intricate threads.
The revisited version of the Roy sweatshirt could never have existed without the incomparable insight and creative intuition of the House of Lesage. Through this reintroduction, Roy has become a statement, a conduit for stories, an essence of French artistry. It transcends the traditional while feeling unmistakably rooted in its Parisian origins. At its heart, this launch is an ambitious stone laid to further the Wave Texture path.
The limited edition Roy Veste is available in two colourways and is limited to 50 pieces.
